I keep coming back to the same subject: what complete engagement looks like. The spectators who have forgotten to check their phone at a sports event. The dog who treats a walk to the park like a classified operation.
I explore this in two ways:
“Unsolicited Enthusiasm” documents a border collie who does nothing at less than 100%. The deadpan voice treats her intensity as entirely warranted.
The project “Immersion” removes the fur and comedy to ask: what does this state look like for humans?
I started photography in a darkroom during a high school exchange in California. And then my route took me through law studies, private equity, and a venture. None of which are listed under ‘Prerequisites for Photography’.
But the thread is consistent: I’ve always been drawn to understanding what’s actually happening rather than what appears to be happening. Whether that’s the economics of an industry or the mechanics of attention. The camera just turned out to be a sharp tool for that.
